BCCS faculty and staff are characterized by the following: 85% of our teachers remain at BCCS each year; 30% of our teachers have been here for longer than five years; and 80% of our teachers have been teaching for more than three years. Rasheeda Abdul-Musawwir joined BCCS in 2015 after teaching first grade in Roxbury, MA for one year and also spending a year as a Fulbright scholar teaching middle school English in Bangladesh. Rasheeda is currently attending Boston University completing her masters in Ed. and is a proud Teach for America 2015 corps member.

Bridget Adam joined BCCS in 2003 as a student support teacher before transitioning to the math classroom. Previously, she served as a Lead Therapist in the Wisconsin Early Autism Project. Ms. Adam has also worked as a mentor and as a Head Start teacher.

Ben Ault joined BCCS after serving as a high school English Language Arts teacher at Digital Harbor High School  in Baltimore, MD. In addition to teaching, Mr. Ault served as a member of the Child Study Team.  As an alum of the Teach for America program, he has focused his work on serving at-risk populations and on serving those with special needs.

Drew Bostrom worked for several years as a research scientist at public universities and as a policy analyst for the United States Environmental Protection Agency in Washington D.C. Mr. Bostrom has joined BCCS after teaching Chemistry at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School.

Lindsay Brandts joined BCCS this fall after graduating from Northeastern University with a combined B.S./M.S. degree in speech-language pathology. Prior to beginning her BCCS experience, Ms. Brandts completed several clinical practicums servicing pediatric clients with various diagnoses including autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays, and specific language impairment. Outside of the classroom, Ms. Brandts enjoys running, reading, and exploring Boston!

Darren is currently a PARCC Educator Leader Fellow for Massachusetts and a member of the state's Model Curriculum Development Team. He is also working on One Dorchester, a collaborative project between BCCS, the Jeremiah E. Burke High School, and Cristo Rey Boston High School around implementation of Common Core-aligned performance tasks in ELA and mathematics. He is also involved in supporting an ongoing partnership with the Burke and BCCS funded by the Federal Exemplary Charter School Collaboration Grant. Darren is fortunate to teach Algebra to 9th graders every day, as well as support and work alongside math teachers throughout the school. He curates Common Core resources around the clock on Twitter (@dgburris) and blogs as well.

Aimee Byrne - (Lower School Campus)

Aimee Byrne joined BCCS in April of 2011. Ms. Byrne is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who previously worked in both public and residential school settings as a student services provider, a psychology teacher and as a counselor. Ms. Byrne has worked as a family specialist serving the greater Boston area and as an AmeriCorps member in the Pioneer Valley. Ms. Byrne provides short and long term counseling using DBT, CBT, Art Therapy, Group Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Health Realization. In addition, Ms. Byrne offers outreach and referrals for families to outside service providers in the Boston community.

After a long career with the preschool population, Mary Carrig switched gears and obtained a B.Sc. from Fitchburg State University with a Minor in Special Education. She is currently pursuing a Master's in Special Education. Before joining BCCS in 2011, Mary  worked as a special education teacher in Northborough and Attleboro, MA, as well as a speech/language assistant in Hudson, MA.

Leah Charles has an Associates degree in Early Childhood Education and is currently working on her Bachelor's Degree at Boston University.  She has worked in the education field under a host of different roles from Teacher to Education Supervisor and most recently as an Applied Behavior Analyst.  She is very excited about the journey she is beginning here at BCCS and can't wait for the school year to begin!

Chelsea joined BCCS after teaching in Italy for two years. Prior to that, she taught English in public schools in France and Spanish in an alternative high school in Philadelphia.  Ms. Choate studied Romance Languages and Dance at Bryn Mawr College, specializing in French and Italian literature, and had the opportunity to study both at the Université de Paris and the Università di Firenze.

Prior to joining BCCS, Jonathan Clark spent four years as the Assistant Director of Admissions at Bentley University, where he focused on minority recruitment and special event planning.  Prior to that he spent three years teaching fourth grade in Fitchburg before spending six years at Lawrence Academy in Groton where he worked in the offices of admissions and Student Life.  Mr. Clark devotes a part of his summer to a local day camp and during his free time he speaks to junior high and high schools students about college admissions.

Shannon Clark joined BCCS in the Fall of 2015 after graduating from Northeastern University last spring. This past summer, Ms. Clark taught 8th grade ELA at the Guilmette Middle School in Lawrence, MA. Ms. Clark has also served as a writing peer mentor at Orchard Gardens Pilot School in Roxbury, MA. Ms. Clark is a 2015 Teach For America Corps Member, and is currently completing her Masters in Education at Boston University.

Rodney Coleman joined BCCS in 2002 as the Health and Physical Education Teacher before becoming Athletic Director and then Middle School Dean of Students. Mr. Coleman spent a year teaching K-5 Physical Education in Milton Public Schools and also worked as a teacher and teaching assistant at Health Careers Academy Charter School.

Steph Cosantino joined BCCS in 2015 after teaching 5th grade at an international school in Guatemala. Prior to this experience, she taught 7th and 8th grade as an AmeriCorps Volunteer Teacher at an all-girls school in New Bedford, MA. She then rode her bicycle across the country to raise money for her school in New Bedford. While earning her master's degree at Lesley University, Steph student taught 9th and 10th grade at a charter school in Cambridge, MA, and presented at the National Association for Multicultural Educators Conference.

Kennedy Academy for Health Careers. During the summer, Mr. Cotto spends time in Vermont pursuing an M.A. in English literature at Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf School of English.

As a graduate of the UMASS Bridges to the Future Program, Ms. Darling has focused her work on meeting the needs of at-risk populations.

Jana Donnelly joined BCCS after teaching at Dorchester Collegiate Academy Charter School, where she taught fifth and sixth grade humanities. As a 2008 Teach For America corps member, Ms. Donnelly taught sixth grade science and writing in South Philadelphia. There, she served as the lead teacher for the Grant Coordination Team, which supported an extensive teacher training to improve science instruction through a hands-on approach for elementary classes.

Through her studies she was able to learn and practice progressive methods of teaching through an integrated Math/Science curriculum for 7th and 8th graders.

Megan Hyland joined BCCS in 2009 after serving as a Teach For America corps member at Markham Middle School, located in the Watts section of Los Angeles, California. Ms. Hyland taught 7th grade English Language Arts and Developing Reading at Markham. She spent two years working as BCCS's Director of Instruction for Humanities and World Languages before transitioning into the role of Middle School Principal.

Rachel Jacobsen first joined the BCCS staff as a summer intern. While an undergraduate, she taught for three years in a bilingual classroom at the Regional Multicultural Magnet School in New London, CT. After graduation, Ms. Jacobsen taught young working children in the markets of Quito, Ecuador. She rejoined the BCCS staff as a Student Support Teacher.

She has served as part of the Wright Middle School Instructional Support Team, as well as on that school's School Climate Committee.

Nadiya Ledan joined BCCS in 2011 after earning her Bachelor’s in Sociology from Emmanuel College. Ms. Ledan also served as a BCCS intern during the 2010-2011 school year and advised the dance and yearbook clubs.

After Loyola, Joe worked in law enforcement and taught in an alternative high school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Joe was born and raised in South Boston, Massachusetts and volunteers as a lacrosse coach at Boston College High School.

Yiriam Lopez joined BCCS after completing her Bachelor's degree in Speech Pathology and Psychology at The College of Our Lady of the Elms in Chicopee, MA. In addition to her studies, Ms. Lopez worked in the Office of Admission at Elms College as a Student Ambassador for 2 years where she performed office work, gave tours of the entire campus and worked closely in preparing for Open Houses. Prior to beginning and during college she also worked as a Group Leader/Camp Counselor for the Boys and Girls Club of Brockton and the Brookline Recreation Dept.

Samuel Oladipo is a career changer who was formally in business management until 2012, when he joined Epiphany School in Dorchester, MA as a part of their teaching fellows program. While there, he attended Boston College, earning his Master’s in Education. He taught 5th-8th grade students in different subjects, but concentrated on 7th grade World History and 8th grade American History. Mr. Oladipo also coached soccer, basketball and track & field. Lastly, Mr. Oladipo ran a Facing History enrichment program for 7th and 8th grade students. Mr. Oladipo believes in equitable access to high levels of education for all students regardless of race and socio-economic background and is a social justice advocate. He is excited to join the BCCS team as the new Dean of Students.
