Our Students

Geography:
BCCS fills its enrollment through an open, public lottery for all age-appropriate students in the city of Boston. Our students live in all of Boston's 13 neighborhoods, with the majority of our students residing in Dorchester. An ever-expanding number of students come from neighborhoods throughout the city, including Mattapan, Hyde Park, Roxbury, Roslindale, and South Boston.

Life at Home:
44% of the student body lives at or below the poverty line.

Gender:
Girls compose 54% of the student body and boys compose 46%.

Special Needs:
19% of our students are on an Individualized Education Plan or a 504 Plan.

Race:
The student body is 57% White Non Hispanic, 25% African American, 14% Hispanic, and 4% Asian, Native American and Bi-Racial. As BCCS has developed a strong reputation across the city, we have been able to attract students from diverse backgrounds and from neighborhoods beyond South Boston, our original location.
