Boston Collegiate benefits from the support and commitment of the greater Boston community to achieve our simple yet ambitious mission: to prepare each student for college. We ask a lot of our families, students, and staff to create and sustain a high-performing public school. We are able to provide our students with additional academic support and enrichment opportunities because of the support of community members throughout greater Boston. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you to our school and to introduce you to our students.
Reading Buddy
Every morning our students participate in silent reading before their formal classes begin. Reading buddies work one-on-one with students who need assistance in developing their literacy skills.
Time Commitment: 20-40 minutes per week
Tutor
Our tutors work with students after school and on Saturdays. Tutors play an important role in providing academic support to our students in need of extra assistance and help us in our mission to prepare each student for college.
Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per week
Science Fair Judge
During the year, sixth grade students complete a Science Project module, which culminates with a Science Fair at which they present their projects and findings to guests and judges. We always look to volunteers to serve as judges.
Time Commitment: 1-1½ hours on day of Science Fair held in the spring
Junior Internship Host
Through our internship program, students gain practical, hands-on experience to inform their college application process and to explore the world beyond Boston Collegiate. We look to corporations, small businesses, and non-profit organizations to host interns. Hosts build mentoring relationships with first-generation college-bound students and share valuable work experience and knowledge with highly motivated students.
Time Commitment: 2 weeks
Career Symposium Participant
The Career Symposium is a chance for our high school students to meet professionals in various fields to help shape their future decisions. Students not only learn about different career options but also hone their interviewing skills. We always look to volunteers to serve as participants.
Time Commitment: 1hour on day of Career Symposium held in the spring
Committee Member
Do you have expertise in finance? Are you interested in helping to plan special events and fundraisers? Boston Collegiate welcomes individuals who have an interest in supporting the school through its Development and Finance Committees, which involve both board and non-board members. We also look to volunteers to help plan special events, such as our annual Collegiate Cup Trivia Challenge held every fall.
Time Commitment: 1-3 hours per month
If you would like to volunteer or for additional information, please contact Kate Goldenheim, Director of Special Projects at 617-265-1172 x332. |
